Cam Dot does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. No camera data is recorded or sent anywhere. Everything stays on your device.
Overview
Cam Dot is a macOS menu bar application developed by Good Bar. It provides a quick webcam preview from your menu bar so you can check your camera before meetings or video calls. We take your privacy seriously and have built the app with privacy as a core principle.
Data Collection
Cam Dot does not collect any data. Specifically:
- No personal information is collected
- No usage analytics or telemetry is collected
- No camera data is recorded, stored, or transmitted
- No photos or video are captured or saved
- No advertising identifiers are used
- No cookies or tracking technologies are used
Camera Access
Cam Dot accesses your Mac's camera solely to display a live preview in the popover. The camera feed is rendered locally on your screen and is never recorded, captured, or transmitted. The camera is activated only when the popover is open and is immediately turned off when the popover closes.
Data Storage
All app preferences are stored locally on your Mac using macOS UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device.
The following information is stored locally:
- Your selected camera preference
- Your mirror/flip preference
- Your launch-at-login preference
Network Access
Cam Dot does not connect to the internet. The app uses the macOS AVFoundation framework to access your camera locally. No network requests are made and no internet connection is required.
Third-Party Services
Cam Dot does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks beyond the standard macOS system frameworks provided by Apple.
App Sandbox
Cam Dot runs within the macOS App Sandbox, which limits the app's access to system resources and other apps. The app only accesses what it needs to function: displaying a menu bar icon, showing a popover, accessing the camera for a live preview, and storing preferences locally.
Children's Privacy
Cam Dot does not collect data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app is safe for users of all ages.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Since Cam Dot does not collect data, we do not anticipate significant changes.
